FFA Week a Success

The Putnam County FFA Chapter celebrated National FFA Week with several activities during the week of February 24-28, 2020.

The first activity conducted was 8th-grade recruitment on Tuesday, February 25th. The purpose of this activity is to encourage the 8th graders to join FFA next year. During the recruitment presentation, the 8th graders watched a video and slideshow of our chapter’s activities and listened to FFA officers speak about the FFA.

Also on Tuesday, Feb. 25th, members from the chapter conducted a Food for America activity with the 3rd graders. For this activity, FFA members visited the 3rd-grade classrooms and talked to them about FFA and the importance of agriculture. They made butter by shaking cream in glass jars and then the butter was sampled by the classes.

On Wednesday, February 26th, FFA members competed in the Ag. Olympics. It was held in the ag. shop with FFA members forming teams and competing against each other in various games. The winning team was Grant M, Maggie F, Carsen S, Justin W, Cole R, and Aaron S.

On Thursday, February 27th the FFA chapter held the annual Teacher/Businessman Appreciation breakfast from 6:45 am to 8:00 am in the agriculture shop. FFA members cooked pancakes and sausage for the community supporters and parents of our FFA chapter members as a way of saying thank you for their support. About 50 guests were served that morning as well as the 50 FFA members that helped.

On Friday, Feb. 28th the FFA had its Barnyard Petting zoo in the agricultural shop. Different FFA members brought various farm animals for students of the school to come and see. Every elementary classroom got a chance to see the animals, as did most high school and middle school students. This concluded another successful FFA week.
