Middle School Communication Arts

Students in middle school have been busy researching different topics and learning how to use credible sources.

6th Grade

The Titanic is something that always catches attention, sparks conversations, and raises questions, and that is what is happening in the 6th-grade communication arts classes. 6th graders have been learning about the Titanic and the year 1912 for the past few weeks, students have enjoyed seeing how the costs have changed over the years, along with the toys and games. These students will be learning more about the people who were on the Titanic. Soon students will get to pick people to research and find out more about their lives, what they went through, before, during, and after the Titanic sank. While researching students will slowly start learning about how to cite their sources and find credible information on websites and in books.

Our 6th graders have also been lucky enough to have a high school helper in the classroom, she has let her creativity side fly and started designing a bulletin board/wall that follows what students are learning in class. Currently, students are able to see inventions from 1912 and learn more about them by looking at our helper’s hard work.

7th Grade

7th graders are learning about presidents in their communication arts classes. Students will randomly be assigned a president to research and learn more about. Students in 7th grade have been learning about how to use MLA citations, how to find credible sources and how to use information in their essays while avoiding plagiarism. To help students put all of those things into action, they will each be learning about a different president. Once their research is finished students will be asked to step out of their comfort zone and give a speech to their peers about their president.

8th Grade

Did you know that each sport has a unique history? 8th graders are currently learning about a sport they were randomly assigned and knew little about. Students are working on finding websites to use and will use those websites to answer questions about their sport, students will also be asked to give a speech about their sport to their peers.
