Friendly Letters Bring Joy

Mrs. Valentine's two elective classes recently practiced writing friendly letters and chose the residents at the Putnam County Care Center as the recipients of those letters. Students were reminded of the dynamics of a friendly letter such as (first) name, (no addresses used), the date, salutation (greeting), body, closing, and a signature. They were encouraged to tell about themselves. Things they included were their hobbies, what they do for entertainment, and things of that nature.  Many students took the project to heart and really enjoyed writing these notes to their "people."  Several asked probing questions to the residents such as, "What was something you liked to do as a teenager?" The letters were signed, sealed, and delivered before Thanksgiving in hopes that there would be some joy spread to the residents this holiday season since the PCCC is shut down due to COVID-19.  The residents are in our thoughts and I am pleased the students enjoyed this little mini-lesson and the discussions in class were very thought-provoking and heartfelt.
