Community Counseling Services

Now more than ever people across the country are feeling stress and fear because of Covid-19,  isolation and social distancing.  Having a good support system and people that you trust and respect can help.  Support from loved ones, peers and professionals can make a big difference in your well-being and mental health.

Putnam County R-1 is fortunate to have a school counselor in each building.  In the High School, Ms. Carla Miller is the school counselor, Mrs. Brook Fleshman is in the Middle School and Mrs. Diane McClain is the Elementary counselor.  Along with school counselors, Mrs. Cheryl Mayer is the new At-Risk Coordinator.  School counselors promote social/emotional wellness and are advocates for mental health needs while providing short-term counseling and crisis intervention focused on mental health or situational concerns such as grief or transitions.  When a student needs longer-term or more intensive counseling referrals are often made to community counseling agencies. This year we are fortunate to have two agencies providing services on the school campus.

Tisha Thrall, L.P.C. works for North Central Missouri Mental Health Center out of Trenton, Missouri with an office in Putnam County.  Tisha provides teletherapy and services on site at the school.  Mrs. Thrall has been a licensed professional counselor since 2010.  She has her Masters of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology. She has work experience in the Kansas City area working primarily with inner city kids, families and schools.  She has worked inpatient psychiatric hospitals and residential facilities for kids, adolescents and adults, as well.

Krysten Jarman is a P.L.C.P. working for Preferred Family Health Care out of Kirksville, Missouri.  This will be the second year she has provided counseling services on our campus.  She is currently at the school 2-3 days a week seeing students.

If  interested in having a community counselor meet with your child you may contact Mrs. Mayer or any of the school counselors to get a referral packet to complete.  The counseling services are covered through MC+ or Missouri Medicaid and private pay or health insurance.
