Stuck Inside?

Break Out the Story and Food

According to the National Weather Service, our area is in for a wintry-weather mix for the weekend.  If the forecast holds true that means most of us will be stuck inside for the weekend.  You know what that means!?! Most people find themselves doing extra cooking and eating as a pastime while holed up in their houses.  How about combining that extra cooking/eating with a good story with your child?  There are lots of books that mention food.  You might try Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett, Green Eggs and Ham  by Dr. Seuss, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff, or The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.  The options are almost limitless as there are so many books in circulation that involve food.  Pick your book and read it together.  Then prepare the food that goes best with the book.  (If you are craving pizza, then Secret Pizza Party by Adam Rubin would be a wonderful hit.)  Enjoy the story, food, and, most importantly, the time spent together!  Remember this...story+food+together time= memories of a lifetime!!
