Caring Community

Ms. Nerem-School Based Social Worker received $100.00.

Earlier this summer, a couple contacted the elementary school counselor to say they would like to be an encouragement to elementary staff.  This anonymous family wanted to spread good cheer and start the year off on a positive note.  The family donated cash to be given to staff for use in their classrooms or office.  The donator said, "teaching isn't easy, papers, parents, administration, tests, kids being kids.... then add in your own family, it's a hard job with sometimes limited support."  He said that "we want to let people know that someone cares about what you do and how you influence the next generation."  When asked why they chose the elementary he replied" if we don't get the children interested in learning and reading when they are young then we have lost them by middle or high school. " This very special family shared that "Kids just want to know that someone cares about them, and the kids that don't have that support at home crave it and need attention, we must praise, push and encourage all kids."  As the school year was about to start the family brought in $100.00 to be given away on the 1st day back to work for staff, followed by $75.00 for day 2 and $50.00 for day 3.

Ms. Nerem, our school-based social worker, won $100.00 and plans to use the money for students needs, items such as book fair, hair cuts and field trips for those that may have an unmet need.  On day two, Mrs. Overton our school nurse won $75.00 and intends to purchase items to set up a "caring closet" to meet personal hygiene and other basic needs for students.  The final day, Mrs. Trimble a 2nd-grade teacher won $50.00 and will be purchasing a new rug for her reading circle time.

We would like to thank the family that helped to start off the school year on such a positive note.  It is a blessing to work in a rural community where generosity is overflowing and when there are needs that we have, people and businesses rise up and help.
