Veterans Day Assembly 2018

Veterans Day Assembly 2018 was held on Friday, November 9, 2018 in the Putnam County High School gymnasium.

Whitney R, National Honor Society President welcomed everyone at 9:00 am. The Posting of Colors was presented by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Seniors Delaney M and Will W performed the posting of the MIA/POW flag. Jacob E, High School Student Council President, and Jesslyn K, Middle School Student Council President, lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The National Anthem was performed by the High School and Middle School Choir.

Whitney R, recognized and special guests. Then the PCR-I High School Band performed the "Armed Forces March" and audience members from each division stood as their song was played.

Our guest speaker, Steven McDavid, encouraged students to be courageous, never quit, and always remember the importance of your family and support system.

This was our thirteenth year of the Old Glory Project. 5th-graders work with Mrs. McClain to craft their own framed American flag. PTO provides extra funding for this project to soften the costs for students and their families.

The High School and Middle School Band, under the direction of Mrs. Booth, played "You're a Grand Old Flag" and "America the Beautiful" while 5th-grade students gave their framed flags to family and friends.

The Middle School Choir sang "You're a Grand Old Flag" and third and fourth-grade students performed "Thank a Vet" under the direction of Mrs. Waugh.

Everyone paused for a moment of silence to remember those who have courageously served our country.

Jaylen W and Mason P performed "Taps" and members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars retired the colors, and Delaney M and Will W retired the POW/MIA flag.

NHS President closed the assembly with many thanks to all those who have served and everyone who helped make the assembly a success.
