Miss Errante's Classes

2018-2019

    I am so excited to see the new faces and to see the students returning again. I have something fun and creative in store for every class and I am so looking forward to spending my 4th year again in Putnam County!

What's New This Year?

• This year, I will be the Editor-in-Chief of The Putnam Press, which will be a newspaper featured online written by the students. This is something I am very much looking forward to! It is never too late to join the Journalism Club, which will have meetings bimonthly. 

• The fall play will be Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. Fall tryouts are before and after school on August 23rd and 24th. We always have so much fun every year; the play is also a great opportunity to put something extra on college applications and resumés! 

English Language Arts I

    English Language Arts I is an introductory course for 9th grade. In this class, we will read To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. We will have a few writing units as well, which will include argumentative writing (a blended writing technique). We will also be completing a poetry unit, which will be a mix of reading and writing poetry.

    I hope that the transition to high school is a smooth and happy one for our incoming freshmen! I look forward to seeing you!

American Literature

    American Literature is a course for 11th grade. The texts surround important events from America's History and foundational American ideas. Other texts read by this class are written by famous American authors. These texts are The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, and various American short stories by Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Stephen King. Poetry featured will be written by Emily Dickinson and short essays by Henry David Thoreau and William Cullen Bryant. American Literature students will also be reading and analyzing the Declaration of Independence. They will write a persuasive essay inspired by the document. Various writing assignments will be throughout each unit.

American Literature has always been one of my favorite subjects to teach and I can't wait to see the 11th graders this year for this class!
