Nine members of the Putnam County FFA chapter attended the 87th National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky on October 29- November 1, 2014.  Those attending were: Haley B., Katelyn G., Tanner B., Katey H., Courtney G., Kyle B., Hunter H., Sara W., Megan T. and FFA Advisors Mr. Randy Morris and Mr. Clyde Bondy.

On the first day at the convention the group attended the opening session and had the opportunity to listen to this year’s keynote speaker, Nik Vujicic. Mr. Vujicic is a man who was born with no limbs and overcame many obstacles to get where he is today.

On the second day of convention, members went to the expo. Here they had the chance to view hundreds of exhibits from various colleges and agricultural businesses from around the nation.  Members also attended a leadership workshop before watching the FFA Talent Show. To end the night, the group attended a concert featuring The Swings, Danielle Bradbery, and Scotty McCreery.

On the third day of the convention the group toured the Louisville Slugger factory and gallery.   Louisville Slugger makes over 1.8 million bats per year and crafts the bats for countless professional baseball players including Babe Ruth, Derek Jeter and Alex Gordan.  The group also toured the Louisville Water Tower Park. To finish the night, members enjoyed the thrills of haunted housing.

The National FFA Convention has been held each year since 1928.  The convention is the largest youth convention held in the country and is attended annually by over 55,000 members and guests. This year a record attendance was set with 64, 409.
