Forty members of the Putnam County FFA chapter have been studying hard in preparation for district and state agriculture contests. Agricultural contest areas are based on classroom agriculture curriculum. Students that are interested, volunteer to try-out for one of the teams. This year’s teams are: forestry, livestock judging, dairy cattle judging, horse judging, soils, dairy products, poultry, agronomy, entomology, and meats. The students have attended practice contests at Brunswick, Schuyler County, North Shelby, Trenton (NCMC), Lathrop and North Harrison all during the month of March.
The team members for these contests are: Meats: Sydney M., Drake M., Montana S., and Alex O. ; Agriculture Mechanics: Dakota V., Ty C., Jacob V.; Agronomy: Shelby R., Ashley S., Jacey V., and Krista F.; Entomology: Dakoda O., Samantha S., Craig G., Katie R.; Dairy Foods: Becca M., Derek T., Trey R., and Dillion B.; Livestock: Eric W., Kailey C., Niki C. and Marissa S. ; Soils: Klayton M., Britney G.l, Jarod M., and Allen N.; Dairy Cattle: Chelsea V., Phoenix T., Ariel M., Kristen C. and Nioka K.; Forestry: Gloria C., Samantha D., Ashley H., and Damien G.. Horses: Riley W., Haley B. and Sydney M..
Some of the top performances are as follows: Schuyer Ag. Contest- Dairy Foods team 1st place; Becca M., 1st place individual; forestry team 2nd place; Dairy Cattle team, 3rd place; Livestock team 3rd place; Meats team 3rd place. Trenton NCMC contest- Agronomy 4th place. North Shelby Ag. contest- Agriculture Mechanics 4th place.
District Agriculture contests will be April 4th, 2012 and State Agriculture contests and FFA Convention will be April 19th and 20th, 2012.
