Preschool and Kindergarten Enrollment

Hello Putnam County!

I cannot believe it's already enrollment time for the 2020-2021 school year!  Enrollment is MANDATORY for Preschool and/or Kindergarten students enrolling for the 2020-2021 school year.  Enrollment for Kindergarten will be Monday and Tuesday, February 24 and 25. Enrollment for Preschool will be Wednesday and Thursday, February 26 and 27. Your child must be 5 before August 1, 2020 to be eligible for Kindergarten(If your child's 5th birthday falls on August 1 they are not eligible for the 2020-2021 school year).

Please call Mrs. Jolene White in the elementary office to schedule times for your child to attend these screening. Mrs. White can be reached at (660-947-3361 ext. 318). These spots usually fill up quickly so do not hesitate to call and make your appointment!

If you are not interested in your child attending preschool this year but have concerns in any area (intellectual, speech, language, etc), please feel free to contact Ms. Wickert at 660-947-3361 ext. 333. I can make other arrangements to screen your child. We are able to start serving students at the age of 3; therefore, please do not hesitate to contact us with any concerns.

What you need to bring on the day of screenings:

            *Child’s birth certificate

*Proof of residency (i.e. Rental Contract, Real Estate Contract signed by all parties, Utilities Bill/Deposit Receipt, payroll check, driver’s license, W-4 employment documents or post-marked envelope received in the mail with your name and address on it).

            *Child’s immunization records

            *Emergency contact numbers

Mrs. White will make copies of all of these items listed above and will ask you to complete paperwork about your child at the time of the screening.  You will also need to be able to provide emergency contact numbers.  During the time that you are filling out paperwork with Mrs. White and Mrs. McClain, the nurse or one of three other teachers will take your child for screenings.  Usually, we let the nurse do a vision screening first.  She will also need to look at your child’s immunization records and let you know if there is anything they will need prior to starting school.  After having their vision tested, Mrs. Heine or I will take your child for a hearing screening and follow with the speech and language portion of the DIAL-4.  After this portion is completed, your child will go to another station with another teacher to complete either the motor portion or the concepts portion of DIAL-4.  The motor section includes some hopping, throwing/catching, and cutting and the concepts section will focus on colors, counting, and other basic concepts.  The total screening takes about an hour with approximately 15 minutes at each station/room.  They will probably get a few stickers that day :).

Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Thanks again for the pleasure of working with your children. We love what we do and are so thankful to work in this community and school district.
