Thank you, Putnam County!

We live in a great community!  I am fortunate enough to be in a position where I get the chance to see the kindness and generosity of our awesome citizens.  As the middle school counselor, I am always in search of resources for various student needs. At the beginning of the year, I needed a few backpacks that could hold the abundance of stuff a middle schooler packs around.  I made one passing comment about it and within a few days I had several backpacks. I also hand out several pairs of tennis shoes throughout a year, whether they are for PE class or to help out a student that has outgrown their current pair.  My stock was running low and again, one comment turned in to eight pairs of gently used tennis shoes. Time and again there is a group of women that answer my request. I’ve only met a few of them, and they usually prefer to stay anonymous, but I appreciate them more than any article or thank you can express.

So naturally, as another need came along, I turned to this gracious group.  I was seeking donations to help fund an after school meal once a week for a group of students.  My proposition to them was to sponsor one month of meals. When the donation was brought in, I was overwhelmed with gratitude as I found enough donations for several months worth of meals!  I feel very fortunate to live in a community with all of these caring women.

In addition to this wonderful group, I have to also thank the businesses within our town.  When emailing a corporate office, a reply or donation seems unlikely. Casey’s has proven that wrong to me.  Not only did they donate pizzas to my after school meals, but they continue to purchase an advertisement in our high school yearbook like many of the other local businesses have faithfully done for years.  I know our businesses are bombarded with donation requests or fundraising and somehow you continue to find a way to support us here at school. Thank you for helping our students learn the art of a sales call even when they are painfully nervous or shy.

Thank you, Putnam County, for your donations, for buying fundraising items, volunteering, and supporting our school!  We really do live in a great community!
