Career & Technical Education Student of the Month

September Winner Announced!

The Vocational Staff at Putnam County R-I recently decided to bring back the monthly CTE (Career & Technical Education) Student of the Month program.

Each month, teachers from the vocational department (agriculture, building trades, business, family & consumer sciences, and marketing) will select a student to represent the department as Career & Technical Education Student of the Month.  This student will then be recognized in several ways including: a certificate of achievement, having their name/picture added to the Career & Technical Education Student of the Month plaque, a custom printed shirt, and social media blasts.
Press releases will also be issued to various media outlets.

The following things will be strongly considered for CTE Student of the Month candidates:

  • Good Attendance (at least 95%)

  • Good Grades (no D or Fs in any classes)

  • Cooperation with fellow students and teachers

  • Enthusiasm for Subject(s)

  • Positive Attitude both in the classroom and out

  • Leadership Qualities

  • Community Involvement

  • Office referrals for the current school year

It is also required for the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month to currently be a member of a Career and Technical Student Organization. The CTSO's offered are DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA and SkillsUSA.

The Putnam County R-1 School District recently recognized Gavin as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month for September 2019.

Gavin is a Senior at Putnam County R-1 High school.  Gavin is active in multiple Career & Student Organizations including DECA, FBLA, and FFA. He has also been an active member of the Football, Basketball and Track teams all four years of High School.

Kerry Schoonover, Business Instructor at Putnam County R-1 High School says Gavin was chosen for this award partly because "Gavin is extremely helpful and always cheerfully willing to volunteer his time and step up to help for any matter for the Club. He made time to help this summer with the 5k/Fun Run. His easy going personality is one of my favorite attributes."

The Putnam County R1 School District feels that these monthly rewards reinforce the importance of Career and Technical Education in our schools.  Learning a skilled trade or craft enables many capable students to enter the workforce and establish successful careers. Vocational instruction also helps the college-bound student succeed in various avenues of study.
